Monica

Chrystee Pharris as Monica Tierney
Monica Danielle Tierney is Lee-Lee’s 26-year old roommate and a second-year student at Emory University Law School.  She's a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  Monica and her brother Derek were raised by her mother Lorraine, and had to struggle.  As a result, Monica has worked since she was sixteen and cannot abide laziness or missed opportunities. She likes Lee-Lee, but sometimes cannot handle her family issues. She's an assistant manager at the QuikTrip on Fulton Industrial Boulevard and drives a red 2004 Honda Accord. Monica likes to play on the computer and read books by Eden McIntyre during her down time.

Monica has an aptitude for languages and is fluent in Spanish, Italian and Mandarin, and functional in French, German and Japanese. Monica double-majored in computer science and linguistics at Clark Atlanta University and wants to be an IT attorney.

Lee-Lee and Monica are friends because Monica’s mother works
for Lee-Lee’s parents, and after a conversation with Lorraine Tierney, Auryn Blake convinced her husband that it would be a good idea for Lee-Lee to move in with MonicaIn spite of being a practical sort, Monica is quietly fascinated by Lee-Lee’s research.

Monica is a good church-going, choir-singing Southern belle who is prone to tossing out nuggets of wisdom and colloquialisms. She is level-headed, grounded, and not one for mess or drama. She’s focused on her future and has her sights set on working for a top Atlanta law firm.  She’s engaged to an accountant named Chris Chang and is devoted to him, her mother and her brother.

Lorraine Tierney is Monica's plain-spoken, no-bullshit mother.  Now that her youngest child is off to the military, Lorraine is back in school to get her college degree and is dating again.

Bern Nadette Stanis as Lorraine Tierney
Chris Chang is Monica's boyfriend, and they've been together since Monica was a freshman at Clark and he was a junior at Georgia State.  Chris is an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers.  He is 29 years old, loves listening to Monica read, converses with her regularly in Chinese, and he also enjoys painting in his spare time. Chris and Monica are deeply in love and plan to get married once she graduates from law school.  Monica's mother and brother adore Chris and already consider him family.
